This month we are celebrating International Womens Month
This month, on the eve of St. Valentines Day, Friday the 13th at 8pm, 10 Bay Area Artists will gather at the EastSide Cultural Center to share their unique visions on the meaning of LOVE. We are also celebrating Black History Month.
WARNING This month there will be images shown that are not suitable for everyone. Therefore, this PKN Oakland will be FOR ADULTS ONLY. NO ONE UNDER 18 ALLOWED.
Keeping with the tradition of the original Pecha Kucha Nights in Japan, each Artist will present 20 images and speak on each image for 20 seconds. The EastSide Cultural Center will be the official home of Pecha Kucha Night Oakland and will be part of a global network of Pecha Kucha Nights that happen in over 500 cities worldwide.
Pecha Kucha Night Oakland will feature a live DJ TBA. There will be a bar with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. There is a 5 dollar cover but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. This event is sponsored by EastSide Arts Alliance, Samurai Graphix, and Hard Knock Radio.

Photography is charged with X-ray power in the hands of artist ADRIENNE BOLSEGA a.k.a. Opal Essence, whose black-n-white portrait photograms reveal her subjects in startling new ways. Adrienne obtains her images by pressing skin directly against photosensitive paper, without the interference of camera or lens. This way, she can capture the unseen spirit of the being. Her work gives new meaning to LOVE AFTER DARK.

EMORY DOUGLAS is the former Minister of Culture for the Black Panther Party and was responsible for articulating the groups aesthetic and artistic vision. Emorys properganda helped spread the Panther message and endeared his art to generations of freedom fighters. According to Che, Love is the most important quality of a true revolutionary. Back in the day, ERIC K ARNOLD was Editor of the groundbreaking 4080 HipHop Magazine. He is still a prolific music journalist who scribes for the San Francisco Chronicle, Vibe, XXL, Eastbay Express, SF Weekly, XLR8R, Source, West Coast Cannabis, and countless others. Hes no slouch with a camera either, and has done an amazing job of documenting the dopest reggae artists. Dont sleep on his ONE LOVE slide show. HASAIN RASHEED is a photographer and filmmaker who has worked extensively in the music video industry helping to create and capture timeless images and memorable human stories. TAN is an activist, writer, and Community Engagement Director of San Franciscos acclaimed contemporary arts venue, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. SHEILA MENEZES is a photographer who does it all, Commercial, Editorial, Fashion, Photojournalism, and Portraiture. Her recent work with Breast Cancer survivors raises awareness about the disease, combats mass medias negative portrayal of women, and conveys a beautiful message of SELF LOVE. Mike DREAM Francisco was murdered Feb 17, 2000 in West Oakland. He was acknowledged internationally as a Graffitti Art King and Bay Area Style Master. His namesake is still memorialized and etched on walls around the world. Nearly 9 years after his passing, the surviving members of his collective, the TDK Crew, present LOVE TO DREAM. About the Living Word Festival
The Living Word Festival is an annual community gathering of artists, educators, presenters and performers focusing on literary performance and literacy education. Founded by Youth Speaks and the Living Word Project, under the direction of Marc Bamuthi Joseph, the Living Word Festival is committed to exploring new modes of literary performance, and to engaging and supporting artists who are breaking the boundaries of hip-hop theater and spoken word theater.
